Closing the Skills Gap in UK Live Event Production

On 25 August 2026, UK Reporter published an article on the shortage of trained AV technicians and sound engineers in UK live event production. It features the training work of FKLEF Productions through Sound4Church and the London Summer Sound Engineering Bootcamp.

Summary of the article

UK Reporter’s article looks at a shortage of trained AV technicians and sound engineers in the UK, at a time when hybrid and broadcast quality events are becoming the norm. It argues that while event technology has moved quickly, training has not kept pace, particularly in churches and grassroots venues, where many technical teams are volunteers who have largely taught themselves.

The article presents FKLEF Productions as a London company that puts training led by working practitioners at the centre of its work. It describes Sound4Church, which offers live webinars, technical masterclasses and on site training; the article reports that the programme has reached people in more than 40 countries and over 100 churches, with guest sessions from Marco Guarino of MGProATL and Keithan Carroll of Transformation Church.

It also outlines the London Summer Sound Engineering Bootcamp, a full day of practical training covering front of house mixing, in ear monitor management, audio networking and multitrack recording, and includes comments from members of the FKLEF team on why understanding systems matters more than simply knowing which buttons to press.

We are teaching them system architecture, acoustics, and signal flow.
